Artist Bio

Dola Posh is a photographer and storyteller based in Hertfordshire, UK. In 2018 she relocated from Nigeria to London to further her career. Currently, her work focuses on portraiture and personal visual narratives through self-portraiture.

Making photographs is one of her greatest joys. Dola works from the landscape of her imagination and focuses on telling the stories of everyday life. As a black Yoruba woman, she finds inspiration in nature and her culture and tradition.

Artwork Description

A self-portrait at home, caring for her daughter. Every morning, combing her precious daughter’s hair has become something Posh enjoys. After her bath, the house is still, and love flows as she nurtures her. ‘The State We’re In’ is a lockdown or post-lockdown world, where new mothers don’t get all the necessary help and support due to the impact of Covid-19.

“We worry about how to make a living, feel stressed and overwhelmed with household work while caring for our child and simultaneously building careers. We feel unsupported and lonely as fathers return to work, responsible for nurturing a child in a country where childcare is too expensive; resulting in reducing the number of opportunities we take.” – Dola Posh
