It’s Not Easy Being Green
The Gallery Season 5 theme, It’s Not Easy Easy Being Green, aims to highlight the climate emergency and to use the profile of The Gallery to reach a wide range of audiences to encourage debate and action.
The Gallery works with the Out of Home Industry to place artworks on billboards around the UK and Brazil. Each member of the OOH industry has their own company sustainability policy.
The Gallery invites all participating artists to the UK to launch the season of The Gallery, and we recognise that the impact of international travel and accommodation for artists has significant impacts on the environment.
We have worked with industry experts, A Greener Future, to undertake a carbon impact assessment of the international travel and accommodation aspects of the project.
The event’s carbon footprint relating to Travel & Accommodation is 17.1 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (t CO2e), with 16.9 tonnes related to international travel, and 0.2 tonnes relating to accommodation.
Artichoke will work with carbon removal platform CUR8 to invest in certified climate removal technologies for the 17.1 tonnes of CO2e. Investments are selected to balance local impact, long term carbon removal and investment in new technologies to increase the viability of carbon storage via biochar, soil improvement or other carbon capture for the immediate removal of greenhouse gases
