Artwork Description:
Footprint is a land art intervention by The Krank, created in silence over 15 days. Spanning an impressive 1,000 m² on Paxos island in Greece, the installation takes the shape of a colossal human boot mark. The artwork serves as a potent metaphor for humanity’s destructive ecological impact, and the ongoing tensions between economic growth, social welfare, and environmental conservation. Footprint is deliberately ephemeral, etched into the ground yet destined to fade. This transience embodies the fragile state of ecosystems, biodiversity, and memory, while underscoring the irreversible consequences of human activity. Through this simple yet profound gesture, Footprint becomes a silent but urgent call to reconsider our relationship with nature.
Artist's Comment:
Being green means resisting in silence, like a tree pushing through concrete. It's not an aesthetic choice; it's a political act.
Bio:
The Krank (b.1988, Greece) is a visual artist who lives and works in Athens. His work expands from painting to art installations, including video and land art. He is interested in interstices between consciousness and unconsciousness, between the accidental and intentional, between temporary and eternal.
He has exhibited widely across Europe, including at Documenta Halle, KKL Luzern, Berlin Art Week, the World Conference Center Bonn, the Athens Conservatory, the Deutsche Historisches Museum, the European Capital of Culture Eleusis 2023, and Transmediale. In Asia, at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art; and in the United States at Berry Campbell Gallery in New York. His works are part of private collections across Europe, Asia, America, and Australia, as well as institutional collections, including the Solar Panel Art Series, the MON Collection of Contemporary Art, the Climate Art Collection e.V., and the SFVV – Deutsche Historisches Museum. His work has appeared in both Greek and international press.
